OFF TO THE THEATRE

We had a nice day on Friday. We rose early and drove to Newport to the new Newport Beach LDS Temple. It is really beautiful. A southwestern sandstone color. Inside is decorated with gold and brown and rust colors. Beautiful stained glass windows and a gorgeous mural of the ocean and cliffs of the area.  This is one of the few temples that was actually paid for by the people in this temple district rather than general church funds.  We then made a mad dash to Laguna Beach to find an art gallery that was supposed to have paintings of Joseph Kleistch. He was married to my grandmother's aunt and he became a very famous artist in the 1920-40;s He is still highly sort after. I wanted to see one of his original impressionist paintings and was told that had some on display. We encountered a huge traffic jam of folks going into Laguna Beach on a beautiful Saturday.  Naturally when I go to the museum his work was not on display this week. So we headed down the Coast Highway(what a gorgeous drive). I told Mark we should have been playing Beach Boys tunes.
Our next destination was Westminster in Orange County.  We were meeting Steve Bray, a former student. He was working on the musical "Annie" and got us tickets.  It was the Metropolitan Childrens' Theatre of Orange County and was hels at the Rose Theater.  What a lovely facility and the show was great. They have a format similar to CYT(Christian Youth Theater). The children pay to take classes and then are involved in a large performance.  The parents have to pay $90 for their kids to be involved. A bit pricey but such a great activity and the performance was wonderful.
We took Steve to eat at The Lazy Dog restaurant. It is an Applebee's type place. Very good I had the lettuce wraps.
Made it home about 7:30 so that was nice. We saw a strange thing on the highway coming back into San Diego. We were going south but the north bound lanes were stopped for several mile and NO ONE way on the freeway. It was completely dark. Then just as we got to where it was blocked the police release the cars and thousands of cars started moving. I wondered if someone was filming  a movie???
